Drive Through Notary Service

Drive Through Notary Service

Perth’s First Drive-Through Public Notary Because Of Covid 19 RECOMMENCES as cases start to rise due to Omicron and as the WA borders reopen.

1st Mar 2022

Dear friends and clients,

It has been more than 2 years since we started our drive through notary service. During the 2020 lockdown, it proved effective, and many clients appreciated the service.

This is now 2022 and WA is having up to 1000 cases a day and things will get worse before they get better. As the borders open, it is certain that cases will increase.

At Tan and Tan Lawyers, we have kept a keen eye on making sure that there is social distancing when clients come to the office. We are also constantly disinfecting our office open surfaces.

To further improve our services, we are re starting our drive-through notary service.

If you are concerned about your health but still require documents to be notarised, please call our offices for our drive -through notary service.

The process will be:

  • Send us by email, a copy of the document to be notarised.
  • We will prepare the notarial certificate and put Mr Tan’s notary seal on the document.
  • You then drive to the front of our offices at 6/78 Terrace Rd, East Perth WA at the appointed time where Mr Tan will meet you.
  • You stay in your car, show us your identification document, and then sign your document in front of Mr Tan.
  • It is best that you bring your own pen.
  • Payment will be made by credit card.
  • We will update you regarding how the Department of Foreign Affairs are dealing with apostilles and authentications.
  • Do stay safe everyone and remember we all need to fight this virus together by not being together.

Drive Through Notary Service FAQ's

How does the drive through notary service work in Perth?

Our drive through notary service allows you to get your documents notarised without leaving your car. The process begins when you email us a copy of the document that needs to be notarised. We then prepare the notarial certificate and apply the official notary seal to the document in advance, so that everything is ready before you arrive. You drive to the front of our office at 6/78 Terrace Road, East Perth at your appointed time, show your identification through the car window, sign the document in front of our notary Raymond Tan, and pay by credit card.

We were Perth’s first firm to offer this service, which we originally launched during the 2020 lockdown and have continued to operate because of the convenience it provides to clients. The entire process is designed to be fast and straightforward, with the preparation work completed before you arrive so that your time at our office is kept to a minimum.

We recommend bringing your own pen to the appointment. If your documents also require an Apostille or Authentication Certificate from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), we can arrange that as part of the same engagement. Call our office to book your drive through appointment.

You need to bring a valid form of photographic identification such as a passport or driver’s licence, a credit card for payment, and your own pen. The document itself does not need to be brought in printed form because we prepare the notarial certificate and apply the notary seal to the document in advance, based on the copy you send us by email beforehand. This means we handle the preparation before you arrive, so you only need to provide your signature at the appointment.

If there are specific identification requirements for your document based on the destination country or the purpose of the notarisation, we will let you know when we confirm your appointment time. We recommend calling our office to discuss your particular requirements before booking, especially if the document involves an Apostille or Authentication Certificate from DFAT, as this may affect what supporting documentation needs to be provided. The more information you give us by email upfront, the faster and smoother the process will be when you arrive at our East Perth office.

Yes, our drive through notary service is specifically designed so that you can get documents notarised without entering our office. You stay in your car for the entire process, and our notary comes to you at the front of our premises at 6/78 Terrace Road, East Perth. This makes the service suitable for anyone who prefers to minimise contact, has mobility limitations, is short on time, or simply wants the fastest and most convenient notarisation experience available in Perth.

We were the first firm in Perth to offer this format, and it has proven popular with clients well beyond its original introduction during the 2020 lockdown. The key to the service’s efficiency is that all of the preparation, including the notarial certificate and the application of the official notary seal, is completed before you arrive. Your time at our office is limited to the signature and identification verification, which means the entire visit takes only a few minutes. If you need notarisation but cannot or prefer not to attend a traditional office appointment, call us to arrange a drive through time that works for your schedule.

Our drive through notary service operates from the front of our office at Unit 6/78 Terrace Road, East Perth WA 6004. When you arrive at your appointed time, our notary Raymond Tan will meet you at your car, so you do not need to park or enter the building. The location is easily accessible by car and is situated on Terrace Road, which runs along the Swan River foreshore in the East Perth precinct.

Because the service operates by appointment rather than on a walk in basis, we ask that you call our office on (08) 9221 2888 to book a specific time. This ensures that we have prepared your notarial certificate, applied the seal, and have everything ready for you when you arrive, so that the process is completed as quickly as possible. If you need directions or have questions about parking accessibility, our team can provide guidance when you book. We also handle Apostille and Authentication Certificates from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as part of the same service, so there is no need to visit a second location for that step.

Yes, we can arrange for Apostille and Authentication Certificates from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as part of the same engagement when you use our drive through notary service. The notarisation itself is completed at the drive through appointment, and we then handle the submission to DFAT on your behalf to obtain the appropriate certificate, so that your documents are fully prepared for use in the destination country.

An Apostille Certificate is required when your notarised documents need to be accepted in a country that is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, while an Authentication Certificate is used for countries outside the Convention that require DFAT verification of the notary’s signature and seal. Because DFAT holds a copy of our notary’s seal and signature on file, we are able to obtain these certificates without you needing to deal with DFAT directly. If you are unsure which certificate you need, call our office and we will advise based on the country where the documents will be used. This means you can complete the notarisation, apostille, and authentication process through a single point of contact rather than visiting multiple offices.
